The FC TOT is a professional football club from Lak Si , which is part of the Bangkok Metropolitan Region in central Thailand . The name of the association is derived from the owner and sponsor, the "Telephone Organization of Thailand" (Thai Telephone Organization) . The club plays in the country's highest league, the Thai Premier League . The club usually plays its home games at TOT Stadium Chaeng Watthana. Currently, however, he is switching to the Yamaha stadium of local rivals Muang Thong United .

Club history

The club was founded in 1981. In 1993, the club celebrated its greatest club success to date. That year he won the FA Cup . Winning the cup entitled the club to participate in the Asian Cup Winners' Cup in 1995. After all, they could reach the semi-finals and were eliminated there against the Yokohama Wings , who would later win the tournament. In 1996/97 the TOT was a member of the first Thai Premier League season. At the end of this season, the club also achieved its best result in the TPL. After the end of the regular season, the club finished second in the table and was able to qualify for the play-offs. In the semi-finals of the play-offs they lost to the eventual champions FC Bangkok Bank . At the end of the 2000 season , the club found itself in the last place in the table and had to go into relegation . With a 4-0 win against FC Bangkok Christian College , however, relegation was confidently prevented.

In 2003, however, the descent could not be prevented. Another relegation followed by the 2007 season. Every descent was followed by a direct ascent. With fifth place in the 2008 season , the club reached the top five in the league for the first time in almost ten years. Until the 2009 season, the club was based in Nonthaburi . In order to develop a broader fan base, the club moved to Kanchanaburi , only to be based in Lak Si a year later . CAT Telecom joined the 2010 season as a co-sponsor. Since then the club has been officially called TOT-CAT FC. This was accompanied by a new club logo. Long-time coach Pongphan Wongsuwan left FC TOT for the new season. Somchai Subpherm , previously Bangkok United manager , has been named as his successor. But without having even directed a game, he was released again. Since then, Narong Suwannachot has coached the first team.

With the departure of Pongphan no fewer than ten players left the club and followed their old coach to Buriram to FC Buriram PEA . Among them was Suchao Nuchnum who was a kind of icon for the club and played a total of 113 league games. To replace the many departures, TOT-CAT signed four players from Slovakia and Georgi Tsimakuridze, a player from Georgia . This is the first time that players from these nations will play in the Thai Premier League . On the evening of the 5th match day, FC TOT-CAT lost their defender Chanon Wongaree. Chanon died on the night of April 17, 2010 as a result of an accident that had occurred four days earlier.
