Kiatisak Senamuang , also called "Zico", ( Thai : เกียรติศักดิ์ เสนา เมือง ; born August 11, 1973 in Udon Thani , Thailand ) is a former Thai football player . He was one of the best and most popular players in Asia. He got the nickname "Zico" after the great Brazilian player Zico , because of his tricks and dribbling. Today he is the head coach of the Thai first division club FC Chonburi . His biggest goal is to be able to qualify as a coach with the Thai national soccer team for a soccer world championship . As a player, this experience was denied to him.
Club career
He started his career in 1989 at FC Krung Thai Bank at the age of 16. There he played for six years before he moved abroad for the first time via the stations FC Raj Pracha and FC Royal Thai Police , to Malaysia for Perlis FA . In return he gave up his job with the police. In the summer of 1999 he was invited to a trial at Middlesbrough FC . Once there, however, he could not train as he could not show a provisional transfer certificate from his club Raj Pracha. In September of the same year, Zico received a contract offer from Huddersfield Town, a club from the then English second division . However, the negotiations and modalities dragged on for over two months. On November 22, 1999, Kiatisak was able to sign the contract. His salary was about £ 1,000 a week. He was only in the squad of the reserve of the club where he was rarely used. He tried everything to cope with the strange conditions and even ate typical English food. He later commented on his attempts to get used to English football: " When I joined, I did nothing but physical training during the first three months. I had to train like the English so I started to eat boiled chicken, potatoes and baked beans every day. I still cannot believe I could eat that .... “A trial training session at Crystal Palace during his time in England was his last attempt to gain a foothold. In a friendly game between Crystal Palace and Northampton Town , he was substituted on in the second half, but could not leave a lasting impression.
He then went back to Thailand for a short time and then moved on to Singapore. At the club FC Singapore Armed Forces he was finally able to celebrate his first title when he became champion in 2002. He scored 15 goals in 20 games. He then moved to Vietnam in 2002 to join Hoàng Anh Gia Lai . He led this club out of the second division to two championship titles, 2003 and 2004. In 2004, even being named Player of the Year in the V-League , he had reached the height of his career. Tawan Sripan , with whom he is friends, followed him to Vietnam in 2004 to join Hoàng Anh Gia Lai. At the age of 33 he went back to Thailand and moved to BEC-Tero Sasana together with Tawan Sripan, where he completed another season and then ended his career.
After the end of his active career, he began to work as a coach. In 2008 he first coached the Premier League promoted FC Chula-Sinthana . He has been the head coach of Chonburi FC since 2009 .
National team career
He played his first international match for Thailand on April 8, 1993 in Kobe against Japan. He won his first title with the national team in 1993 when Thailand won the Southeast Asian Games. There were three more to follow by 1999 and he was also the top scorer in 1999. In 2004 he resigned from the national team for the first time, only to come back in 2006. The goal was to win the King's Cup 2007, which also succeeded. In October 2007, Kiatisuk played his farewell game. It was played in Suphachalasai Stadium . Opponents were the national team of the United Arab Emirates .
Statistics with the national team
According to official statistics, he has played 130 international matches and scored 65 goals.
