Amphoe Lam Luk Ka ( Thai : อำเภอ ลำลูกกา , pronunciation: ʔāmpʰɤ̄ː lām lûːk kāː ) is a district ( amphoe - administrative district) in Pathum Thani Province . The province is located in the central region of Thailand directly north of Bangkok and is part of the Bangkok Metropolitan Region .

geography

Like the Thanyaburi and Khlong Luang districts, the district is located in the historic Thung Luang area of the eastern Chao Phraya plain.

The Khlong Rangsit (Rangsit Canal) is the district's main water resource.

Neighboring districts (clockwise from north): Thanyaburi district of Pathum Thani province, Ongkharak district of Nakhon Nayok province , Bang Nam Priao district of Chachoengsao province , the Khet Nong Chok , Khlong Sam Wa , Sai Mai and Don Mueang of Bangkok, and Mueang Pathum district Thani .

history

The name Lam Luk Ka comes from a fertile marshland that was called "Bueng Lam Luk Ka". When the government established the district in 1904, the word Bueng ( marsh , swamp ) was cut off.

Today's Amphoe Lam Luk Ka belongs to the Rangsit area, where a very advanced irrigation system around the Rangsit Canal was established during the reign of Chulalongkorn (Rama V) in the 1890s . It became one of the most productive rice-growing areas in the country. The price of land rose rapidly and farmers and workers poured in from other parts of the country.

traffic

In the westernmost tip of the Amphoe Lam Luk Ka is the junction of Vibhavadi-Rangsit-Straße (and the Uttaraphimuk-Hochstraße, which is located above it ) and Phahonyothin-Straße (National Road 1). The district is also intersected by Kanchanaphisek Road (“Outer Bangkok Ring Road”, National Road 9).

Attractions

In Amphoe Lam Luk Ka, in the triangle of Vibhavadi Rangsit and Phahonyothin Streets, is the Thai National Memorial ( อนุสรณ์ สถาน แห่ง ชาติ , English National Memorial ).
