The Don Mueang Tollway ( Thai : ทาง ยกระดับ อุตราภิมุข , Thang Yokradap Uttaraphimuk , "Uttaraphimuk-Hochstraße") is a toll city ​​highway in Bangkok , which is designed as an elevated road .

Routing and operation

This urban highway begins on the northern arm of the Chaloem Maha Nakhon Expressway in the south and ends in the north just past the former Don Mueang International Airport in the suburb of Rangsit in Pathum Thani Province . It runs above the Thanon Vibhavadi Rangsit and follows its route. The elevated road has three lanes in both directions, its total length is 28.1 km. The name Uttaraphimuk - Sanskrit uttarabhimukha means "leading to the north" - was given to the street by King Bhumibol Adulyadej .

It is operated by the private Don Muang Tollway Co. Ltd., which has a 27-year concession. This was in the red from the start. On the one hand, the so-called superhighway Thanon Vibhavadi Rangsit below the toll road is well developed and can be used free of charge, and on the other hand, the international airport has now moved from Don Mueang to Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi Airport . The license has therefore already been extended by eleven years.

The seized aircraft

The insolvency administrator of Walter Bau AG had a Boeing 737 seized at Munich Airport , which the then Thai Crown Prince and today's King Maha Vajiralongkorn personally used, but whose owner, according to the German judiciary, was the Thai Air Force . Walter Bau was the successor to one of the companies involved in the joint venture to build the elevated line. The seizure served to enforce a claim of 30 million euros that an international arbitration tribunal in Switzerland had awarded Walter Bau AG against the Thai state in 2009.
