Amphoe Mueang Pathum Thani ( Thai อำเภอ เมือง ปทุมธานี , pronunciation: ʔāmpʰɤ̄ː mɯ̄aŋ pā.tʰūm tʰāːnīː ) is a district ( amphoe - administrative district) in Pathum Thani Province . Pathum Thani Province is located in the center of the central region of Thailand .
The provincial capital Pathum Thani is also the capital of the district Mueang Pathum Thani.
geography
Pathum Thani lies in the central plain of the Mae Nam Chao Phraya and is surrounded by fertile landscape. In the capital, Pathum Thani, and in the outskirts, canals ( khlongs ) can still be seen that were formerly used to transport goods. The distance to the capital Bangkok is about 45 km.
Economy and Importance
Main products of agriculture, in addition to rice especially oranges that grow here in large plantations.
history
Pathum Thani was originally a settlement of the Mon who immigrated from Mottama ( เมาะ ตะ มะ ), now Martaban , Myanmar , during the reign of King Prasat Thong and Narai . The settlement was initially called Sam Khok. During the time of King Taksin more Mon to Ban Sam Khok immigrated which today Amphoe Sam Khok forms.
On the occasion of a visit by King Phra Phutthaloetla (Rama II) in 1815, the residents of Sam Khok presented him with numerous lotus blossoms as a token of devotion. The king then renamed Sam Khok Prathum Thani . Finally, in 1918 , the city and province were given their current name after King Vajiravudh (Rama VI ) presided over the inauguration ceremony for the new administrative building of the province (Sala Klang Changwat) .
Attractions
- Museum of Science and Technology Pathum Thani - contains interactive facilities on six floors, including traditional Thai techniques. The museum is to become one of Asia's leading technology museums.
- Wat Hong Pathummawat ( วัด หงส์ ป ทุ มา วา ส ) - built in 1764 under King Taksin on the west bank of the Maenam Chao Phraya; Chedi and Viharn are old replicas from Hongsawadi (today: Pegu ), the then destroyed capital of the Mon.
- Wat Chinwararam ( วัด ชิน ว รา ราม ) - located on the west bank of the Maenam Chao Phraya and decorated with beautiful wall paintings depicting the life of the Buddha .
- Wat Sing ( วัดสิงห์ ) - oldest temple complex from the Mon period, just outside the city of Pathum Thani on Maenam Chao Phraya; houses a golden Buddha in the seldom encountered mara pose. The former quarters of the monks can now be visited as a museum for Mon art.
- Wat Phailom ( วัด ไผ่ ล้อม ) - temple with a colony of storks in winter
- San Lak Müang - the shrine for the city spirits of Pathum Thani stands on the property of the provincial administration (Sala Klang Changwat) and was built in 1977 to cover the city pillar; this includes a Sukhothai-style Buddha statue in the posture of victory over evil.

There are two municipalities with "city" status ( Thesaban Mueang ) in the district:
- Pathum Thani (Thai: เทศบาล เมือง ปทุมธานี ) consisting of the complete Tambon Bang Prok.
- Bang Khu Wat (Thai: เทศบาล เมือง บาง คู วัด ) consisting of the complete tambon Bang Khu Wat.
There are seven municipalities with "small town" status ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the district:
- Ban Mai (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บ้าน ใหม่ ) consisting of the complete tambon Ban Mai.
- Bang Khayaeng (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บาง ขะ แยง ) consisting of the complete Tambon Bang Khayaeng.
- Bang Duea (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บาง เดื่อ ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Bang Duea.
- Bang Phun (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บาง พูน ) consisting of the complete tambon Bang Phun.
- Bang Luang (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บาง หลวง ) consisting of the parts of the Tambon Ban Chang, Bang Luang, Bang Duea.
- Bang Kadi (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บาง กะ ดี ) consisting of the complete Tambon Bang Kadi.
- Lak Hok (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล หลัก หก ) consisting of the complete Tambon Lak Hok.
- Ban Klang (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บ้าน กลาง ) consisting of the complete Tambon Ban Klang.
