Edcarlos Conceição Santos (born May 10, 1985 in Salvador da Bahia ) is a Brazilian footballer.

Career

Edcarlos comes from the youth of FC São Paulo . In 2004 he joined the club's professional squad, where he played successfully for the next three years. Edcarlos won with the FCSP in 2005, in addition to the São Paulo State Cup , the Copa Libertadores (without a final game) and then the FIFA Club World Cup . In the two games for the Club World Cup, the defensive player played through and was able to win this title for the first time in the club's history after the 1-0 victory against Liverpool on December 18, 2005. In the following year, the team secured the and the Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol . In 2007 the defender ventured into Europe and signed with the Portuguese club Benfica Lisbon . Under coach José Antonio Camacho he was a regular player and also played in the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Cup . When Fernando Chalana became head coach of Benfica, Edcarlos was no longer used and was often only a spectator at his club's games. However, in order to get more match practice, the full-back was loaned to his native Brazil in summer 2008. There he signed for Fluminense FC . After initial increases in performance and regular use in the first six months of the loan, Edcarlos came to fewer games in the following half year and lost his place as a regular player. After returning to Benfica, he only stayed briefly in Portugal before the club's board of directors awarded him to the Mexican club CD Cruz Azul . In the same year there was another loan deal with the South American club Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte .

National team

Edcarlos took part in the 2005 World Junior Cup with the Brazilian U-20 national team. He played with football players who were later known in Europe, such as Rafinha and Renan Brito Soares . With the team, the defensive player advanced to the semi-finals, where Argentina lost 2-1. The full-back scored in the third-place match against Morocco . By equalizing Fábio Santos Romeu in the 88th minute and another goal in stoppage time from Edcarlos (90th + 1) himself, the game was turned around and won 2-1.
