Rónald Gómez Gómez (born January 24, 1975 in Puntarenas ) is a former Costa Rican soccer player .
Life
Rónald Gómez made his first division debut in Costa Rica at AD Carmelita . His qualities as a striker came in the 1995/96 season when he scored the LD Alajuelense with his 26 goals for the championship title. After that, the then 21-year-old moved abroad. He went to Spain, where he played first for Sporting Gijón and then for Hércules CF in Alicante. But it was only after another year in Guatemala that he had reached his highest level of performance. This was followed by his most successful time in Greece at OFI Crete , where he made it into the UEFA Cup in 2001.
After brief interludes in Kuwait and Mexico, they returned home to the top club Deportivo Saprissa in 2004 . There he won the CONCACAF Champions Cup in the first year . In 2006 he won the second championship with the club ten years after his first title.
In 1993 Rónald Gómez also made his debut for the Costa Rican national team . Over the years he has become an important player in the team and has made 78 appearances so far. With 23 goals he is the third most successful striker in the history of the national team. Already at the 2002 World Cup, he kept his chance of the round of 16 for a long time with his goals and he is also a firm part of Costa Rica's squad at the 2006 World Cup in Germany .
