The FIFA Club World Cup 2020 ( English FIFA Club World Cup 2020 ) was the 17th staging of this global football competition for club teams. The competition took place in Qatar for the second time since 2019 and, like the previous one, served as a test for the 2022 World Cup . In June 2019, FIFA Qatar awarded the bid for both tournaments. The event actually planned for December 2020 has been postponed to February 2021 due to postponements in individual continental associations as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic .

mode

There were no changes compared to the competition mode that has been in effect since 2007. The tournament was initially planned with seven participants. In addition to the six winners of the continental championship competitions at club level from Asia (AFC), Africa (CAF), the Caribbean, North and Central America (CONCACAF), South America (CONMEBOL), Europe (UEFA) and Oceania (OFC), the champions also left the league of the host country - this year from Qatar -, which should play a qualifying game against the winner of the OFC Champions League. If a club from Qatar had won the AFC Champions League, the loser of the AFC Champions League final would have qualified instead. The winner of the qualifying match played two participants in the semi-finals with the representatives of Africa, Asia and CONCACAF. The participants from Europe and South America were already set for this and only played two games each. The game was played in a knockout system .

Since the oceanic representative could not take part in the competition due to quarantine regulations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was no qualifying game with the host.
