Rafael de Souza Pereira , called Rafael Carioca , (born June 18, 1989 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian football player . The right foot is used in defensive midfield.

Rafael Carioca started his career a. a. in the youth team of Grêmio Porto Alegre . Here he made the leap into the professional squad in 2008. On May 10, 2008 he ran for the first time in the A series against São Paulo FC from the start. In the spring of 2009, the player moved to Russia for Spartak Moscow . He made his debut for the club in the Premier League on March 15, 2009 in the game against Zenit St. Petersburg . After a one-year loan deal in 2010, Rafael Carioca played for Moscow until mid-2014. Here he also made his debut at international club level. In the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League he played with Spartak on February 17, 2011 against FC Basel . Rafael Carioca scored his first goal for Spartak in the 2011/12 season . In the championship round he met on May 6, 2012 against Zenit St. Petersburg. After Rafael Carioca started the 2014/15 season with Spartak and played a game on August 1, he moved to Brazil that same month and joined Atlético Mineiro . With the club he won the Copa do Brasil in 2014 and the Minas Gerais national championship in 2015 and 2017.

On August 21, 2017, the move from Rafael Carioca to Mexico to UANL Tigres became known. Two days later he was already traveling to Mexico for a medical examination. His current club Atlético Mineiro will only receive half of the transfer fee, as they share the transfer rights with Spartak Moscow. The announcement of the definitive change was made on August 25, 2017 by the player. In his first season, Rafael Carioca played 35 league games, scored two goals and won the Apertura with the club. In July 2018, the Campeón de Campeones , the Mexican Supercup, followed as another success.
