Nahuel Guzmán (born February 10, 1986 in Rosario , Santa Fe ), often referred to only by his first name, is an Argentine football player on the position of goalkeeper .

career

Nahuel received his first professional contract with his hometown club Newell's Old Boys , for which he was used four times in the 2006/07 season. In order to collect match practice, he was loaned to the lower-class club Independiente Rivadavia in 2007 , where Guzmán was used as a goalkeeper in the 2008/09 season. In 2009, the Newell's Old Boys brought back the goalkeeper he was under contract, but he only made two appearances in the next three seasons. In the following seasons of 2012/13 and 2013/14 Nahuel was the club's regular goalkeeper and helped him to the Argentine soccer championship of the Torneo Final 2013.

Thanks to his convincing performances, Nahuel was not only soon called up to the national team, for which he played for the first time in October 2014 (in a 7-0 win against Hong Kong), but also aroused the interest of Mexican first division club UANL Tigres , who followed him up at the end of 2014 Mexico caught up. With the Tigres, Nahuel has already won the Mexican football championship twice ; first in Apertura 2015 and again in the following year in Apertura 2016 . In both final games (2015 against the UNAM Pumas and 2016 against Club América ) there was no winner in the regular playing time, which is why a penalty shoot-out had to be used to determine the champion in both cases . In these, Nahuel demonstrated his mental strength: while the Tigres converted all four penalties in the final against the Pumas, Fidel Martínez shot the first penalty for the Pumas past the gate. The fourth penalty kicked by Javier Cortés was saved by Nahuel. A year later, the Tigres also converted all penalties in the final against America. This time they only had to compete three times because Nahuel held all three Americanistas shots.

Guzmán is in the current squad of the Argentina national team for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
