The Ahmed bin Ali Stadium ( Arabic ملعب أحمد بن علي), also known as Al-Rayyan Stadium , is a football stadium in the Qatari city of Ar-Rayyan . It has a seating capacity of 21,282 and was built in 2003. The football clubs al-Rayyan SC , al-Kharitiyath SC and al-Jaish , which are based in the Qatar Stars League , play their home games here. In January 2011, the stadium was one of the venues for the Asian football championship . In 2022, the stadium, which had been rebuilt by then, will serve as a venue for the soccer World Cup in Qatar.
In September 2014, the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) announced that demolition work on the stadium had begun. After the planned completion in the first quarter of 2019, the venue for the 2022 soccer World Cup should have over 43,000 seats. The Supreme Committee previously commissioned AECOM as the project planner in February 2014 . In addition, a consortium of Ramboll and Pattern Design was hired as design consultants for the Al-Rayyan Stadium. The stadium design is to be presented in December 2014 around the Qatari national holiday.
