The Borg el-ʿArab stadium ( Arabic إستاد برج العرب, DMG istād burǧ al-ʿarab also known as the Egyptian Army Stadium ) is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the Egyptian city ​​of Borg El Arab on the Mediterranean Sea , about 50 kilometers west of Alexandria . The sports facility, which was inaugurated in 2007, is located on the desert highway between Cairo and Alexandria, around ten kilometers from Borg El Arab Airport. The football club Smouha SC ( Egyptian Premier League ) plays its home games here. The Egyptian national soccer team also plays international matches here. It is the largest stadium in the country and after Soccer City with 94,700 seats the second largest stadium in Africa.

The stadium was originally planned as one of five venues for the 2010 World Cup , for which Egypt, the eventual winners South Africa and Morocco also applied. It was planned and built by the engineering corps of the Egyptian Army .

In 2009 the facility was used as the venue for the U-20 soccer world championship . The opening ceremony and the opening match between Egypt and Trinidad and Tobago (4-1) took place here.

In the final of the Egyptian Football Cup on August 8, 2016, al Zamalek SC and al Ahly Cairo (3: 1) met in the stadium at both Cairo clubs . On October 28, 2017, the final first leg of the 2017 CAF Champions League between al Ahly Cairo and Wydad Casablanca from Morocco (1-1) took place in the Borg el-ʿArab stadium.
