Copa México 1944/45

The Copa MX 1944/45 was the third edition of the football - cup competition since the introduction of professional football in Mexico . The 13 teams that were represented in the top division in the 1944/45 season were eligible to participate . Cup winners were the Puebla FC team, which was only founded at the beginning of the season .

mode

The tournament was held in the preliminary round with three groups, which - as in the previous year - were put together according to regional criteria. The Central group consisted of the five Mexico City- based clubs América , Asturias , Atlante , España and Marte . The group west consisted of the three traditional clubs based in Guadalajara Atlas , Club Deportivo Guadalajara and Club Deportivo Oro as well as the newly founded León FC from the city of León . The group east consisted of the three clubs located in the state of Veracruz, CD Veracruz (from the port city of the same name ), ADO and Moctezuma (both from the industrial city of Orizaba ) and the eventual cup winner Puebla FC from the city of the same name .

Preliminary round

The preliminary round matches took place between April 26 and May 27, 1945.

The first legs of the quarter-finals were played on June 3, 1945 and the second legs on June 10, 1945.

The final was held on June 24, 1945 - as was the only semi-final - in Parque Asturias in Mexico City. For Eduardo Morilla , the coach of Puebla FC, it was already the second cup win in the Mexican professional era, after he had been successful with Moctezuma two years earlier.
