It was the only club team that was based outside of Mexico City in the league round of the just ended 1942/43 season of the Liga Mayor, which was still officially operated on amateur status . The other six clubs were all based in the capital (only five of them went straight into professional football, while Club Necaxa initially retained its amateur status) and the Selección Jalisco, as the eighth participant, was a selection team from various clubs from Mexico's second largest city, Guadalajara .
