Liga Mayor 1943/44
The 1943/44 season was the first season of the professional football league introduced in Mexico and at that time still operated under the name Liga Mayor .
The first game day
The first games were played on October 17, 1943 and saw the following encounters:
The match between Atlante and Guadalajara (1: 4) did not take place until four days later (on October 21).
Records
Back then, football was not so influenced by tactics, so significantly more goals were scored than is the case today. A total of 449 goals were scored in the 90 encounters, so that almost exactly five goals per game (4.99) were scored. A single game (Atlante versus Marte) ended goalless and only in another 15 games did one of the two teams fail to score. Marte remained most frequently without his own hit (five times in total), followed by Atlante (four times). These two teams also scored the fewest goals (Marte 32, Atlante 28). Atlante was not only the team with the fewest goals, but also the fewest goals (31) and played three times to zero. Atlas also remained in three games without conceding a goal. On the other hand, Masters Asturias never missed a match, but scored 57 goals and thus formed the most successful assault line behind “ Spanish rivals ” España, whose team scored 70 goals.

Playoff
In the final table, the “Spanish” clubs Asturias and España took the first two places with equal points. Because the goal difference was not used to select the champions, a playoff was required, which Asturias decided 4-1 in his favor.
