history

In 1894 the Cervecería Guillermo Hasse y Compañía was founded in Orizaba , which was renamed Cervecería Moctezuma in 1896 .

The master brewers of the early years were all of German origin and were called Adolf Burkhardt, Ernst Maas and Otto Neumaier. The latter's son became a soccer player and won the Mexican soccer championship once with the Mexico City- based clubs América and Marte .

The Moctezuma brewery, which launched the Superior brand that is still produced today , later also brewed Sol and Dos Equis , two of Mexico's most successful beer brands.

The Cervecería Moctezuma was the only brewery in Mexico that was represented with its own club in the highest Mexican professional football league .

The brewery was taken over in 1988 by FEMSA , which had previously acquired the Cervecería Cuauhtémoc and combined both brewery divisions under the double name Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma .
