The Cervecería Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma is a brewery based in Monterrey , Mexico . It was created in 1988 through the merger of the Cuauhtémoc breweries from Monterrey and Moctezuma from Orizaba . Other forms of the name are: Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma, CuaMoc, CCM and CM.

As FEMSA Cerveza, the company is the third division of the retail and beverage group Fomento Económico Mexicano (FEMSA) and has been owned by Heineken since 2010 , making FEMSA its second largest shareholder.

The company operates breweries in Monterrey , Tecate , Navojoa , Guadalajara , Toluca , Orizaba and Meoqui . It produces around 3.09 million hectoliters . The company employs over 20,000 people in Mexico.

history

The Cuauhtémoc Brewery was founded on November 8, 1890 by Isaac Garza Garza and José Calderón with the support of Joseph A. Muguerza, Joseph M. Schnaider and Francisco Gómez Sada with an initial capital of 15 million pesos in Monterrey, Nuevo León . It initially operated under the name of the factory Hielo y Cerveza Cuauhtémoc , which then changed to Cervecería Cuauhtémoc . The first brand of beer was Carta Blanca , which is still produced today. The Cuauhtémoc brewery was also the nucleus of the Fomento Económico Mexicano (FEMSA).
