Alfonso Arnáez

Alfonso Arnáez , also spelled Arnáiz in some sources and also known by the nickname La Ardilla ( Eng. The squirrel ), is a former Costa Rican football player in the position of striker . With more than fifty goals scored for his team in the Liga Mayor, Arnáez is the most successful goalscorer in Moctezuma's history. He was also considered the safest penalty taker on his team, so the penalty kicks were mostly reserved for him.

Life

"Ardilla" Arnáez played on July 29, 1941 a game for the Costa Rican first division club Gimnástica Española against the national team of El Salvador, which was lost 2-1.

Before the 1941/42 season he moved to Mexico , where he played in the Liga Mayor for the Orizaba- based UD Moctezuma , the football team of the brewery of the same name , throughout the 1940s .
