Alfredo "Viejo" Sánchez (* in Orizaba , Veracruz ) was a Mexican soccer player who played all the games of the Mexican national team at the 1930 World Cup .

Sánchez began his football career in Orizaba and moved to the capital in 1929 to Club América . There he developed into one of the most reliable defenders in the history of Club America. Sánchez was considered to be one of the most complete Mexican soccer players of all time and was active as a soccer player for a total of 15 years, most of the time for Club America. After his active career, he worked as a coach .

National team

Sánchez was part of Mexico's squad at the 1930 World Cup , where he made his international debut against France (1: 4) on July 13. In the following games against Chile (0: 3) and Argentina (3: 6), Sánchez was used over the full distance. Sánchez played his tenth and last international match on February 22, 1938 against Costa Rica (2-1) at the Central American and Caribbean Football Championship in Panama in 1938, which Mexico won by one point over Costa Rica.
