Rodolfo Muñoz , also known by the nicknames Bush and El Tico , is a retired Costa Rican soccer player who played in midfield and later worked as a coach .

Life

In his home country, Rodolfo "Bush" Muñoz has been shown to play for Hispano Atlético FC and, after his relegation from the Primera División de Costa Rica, to Orión FC in late 1932 . With Orión he played from 1933 to 1935 and initially together with Ricardo Saprissa , the "namesake" of the current Costa Rican record champion Deportivo Saprissa .

Together with his teammate at the time, José Antonio Hütt , Muñoz was a guest player on the Mexico trip which CS Libertad completed in September and October 1935 against various club teams from Mexico City . In the second game of the trip, which was won 3-2 against the then Mexican record champions Real Club España , "El Tico" Muñoz must have made such a great impression that he was signed by the club shortly afterwards.

He experienced his most successful years with the Mexican Españistas and won the Mexican championship three times as a player (1936, 1940 and 1942) and once as a coach (1945) . As a coach, he also won the first Copa México after the introduction of professional football (1943/44) and the first two Supercup finals in the era of Mexican professional football : in 1943/44 with a 5-3 win over arch rivals Asturias and the following year by beating Puebla FC 3-0 .

In the early 1950s, Rodolfo "Bush" Muñoz coached the teams from Deportivo Toluca (1951) and Pumas de la UNAM (1954), who were just starting out in the Segunda División .
