Reginald Thomas Tower
Sir Reginald Thomas Tower KCMG CVO (born September 1, 1860 , † January 21, 1939 in Canterbury , England) was a British diplomat who served as envoy to Bavaria (1903-1906), ambassador to Mexico (1906-1911) and high commissioner of the League of Nations in the Free City of Danzig (1919–1920).
After joining the Diplomatic Corps , Tower served as an attaché in Constantinople in 1885 . His service took him to Madrid, Berlin, Washington, Beijing and Bangkok. From 1903 to 1906 he served as Minister Resident of the British Kingdom for the Kingdom of Bavaria and the Kingdom of Württemberg . From 1906 Tower was ambassador to Mexico. With his donation in 1907, the first soccer tournament for his “ Copa Tower ” trophy was held in Mexico . Tower left Mexico in 1911 and was knighted as Knight Commander of the Order of St. Michael and St. George on June 19, 1911 . His new posts were in Argentina and Paraguay.
Tower served as the first High Commissioner of the League of Nations in the Free City of Danzig from 1919 to 1920, after which he retired.
