The FV Germania is a former football club based in Mexico City , which on 15 June 1915 by German immigrants founded and whose team between 1915/16 and 1932/33 an integral part of the Primera Fuerza , the highest at that time Mexican league belonged. The team, known by the nickname Los Fúnebres (the corpses) because of their strange playing clothing in the colors white and black , had its prime in the early 1920s.

history

Because there had been association disputes, two championships were held per year in the seasons 1920/21 and 1921/22: the Liga Nacional - classified as higher - and the Liga Mexicana, in which "the Germans" participated and which they won in 1921 could. But the official recognition as "Masters of Mexico" was denied to them due to the "unofficial status" of this league. Two years later they were very close to this goal. The Swiss striker Kurt Friedrichs, who was signed up before the start of the 1922/23 season and played in 13 (of 14 possible) games and scored a total of 12 goals, played a major role in this success. After the penultimate matchday, FV Germania led the table with one point ahead of CF Asturias . On the last day of the match, of all things, these two teams met.

After Octavio Rimada had shot "the Asturians" 2-1 ahead, Pérez Meléndez, the goalkeeper of FV Germania, claimed a foul on him that allegedly preceded the shot on goal. He did so with such force that he insulted the referee massively and was eventually expelled from the field. In protest against this decision, the rest of the team left the field, which Asturias won the championship.

In the 1932/33 season, the team, which was now only playing in the second season, surprisingly reached the cup final, but failed 3-1 to Necaxa despite an appealing performance . It was also the last official game of the club, which dissolved its soccer team in 1933.

  2. The spelling of the family name was taken from the Libro de Oro del Fútbol Mexicano , according to which Friedrichs came from the "famous Glassoper team" (p. 118), which can only mean Grasshoppers . In contrast, his family name is given in the Spanish and English language Wikipedia as "Friederich" and is named as the club of origin of FC Zurich . He is also listed under the name "Friederich" at RSSSF.com . In the list of Swiss national football players from 1920/21, a player named Kurt "Friedrich" is named and stated as a club member of FC St. Gallen . It is not clear, but relatively likely, that these are simply different spellings of the same player, but the poor sources allow no conclusions to be drawn about the correct spelling and his club stations.
