history

Osaka University of Education was founded in 1949 through the merger of the two state normal schools . The two were Osaka First Normal School ( 大阪 第一 師範学校 , Osaka dai-ichi shihan gakkō ) and Osaka Second Normal School ( 大阪 第二 師範学校 , Osaka dai-ni shihan gakkō ).

Osaka First Normal School

The first Osaka Normal School was founded in 1874 as a prefectural teacher training institute. In 1901 she moved to today's Tennōji campus. In 1908 it was renamed the Tennōji Prefectural Normal School ( 大阪 府 天王寺 師範学校 , Ōsaka-fu Tennōji shihan gakkō ). They and the normal school for girls (in Hirano-ku, Osaka) were merged to form the state's first normal school in Osaka in 1943.

Second normal school in Osaka

The Second Normal School Osaka was founded in 1908 as the Prefectural Normal School Ikeda ( 大阪 府 池田 師範学校 , Ōsaka-fu Ikeda shihan gakkō ). In 1943 it became a state normal school with no course for women. In 1944 the course for women (in Tondabayashi ) was opened.

Osaka School of Education

The new college was first called Osaka Liberal Arts College ( 大阪 学 芸 大学 , Ōsaka gakugei daigaku ). In 1966 it was renamed to its current name. In 1992 the new Kashiwara campus was opened and the Ikeda campus was closed (only the affiliated schools remain in Ikeda).
