Oskar Göschen (* 1824 in Leipzig ; † February 18, 1900 at Tentschach Castle near Klagenfurt am Wörthersee ) was an Austrian heraldist .

Life

Tentschach Castle from 1887–1900 owned by Göschen

Oskar's father was Georg Joachim Göschen (1791–1855), his grandfather the well-known Leipzig publisher Georg Joachim Göschen (1752–1828). The original family home was in Göschenen on the Reuss , which was abandoned during the Sempach War . The London banking firm Frühling und Goschen also goes back to Leipzig , from which finance ministers such as Viscount George Goschen (1831–1907) and diplomats such as Sir William Edward Goschen (1847–1924) emerged. Oskar's mother was Philippine von Kaiserstein (1789–1855) from a noble family who owned the Tentschach, Kleinreideben, Steuerberg and lucrative Viennese Freihaus in Carinthia at the beginning of the 19th century.

Tentschach Castle

Göschen studied at the University of Leipzig and the Ruprecht-Karls-University of Heidelberg . There he became a member of the Corps Misnia (1845) and Guestphalia Heidelberg (1846). The landowner was an imperial-royal major . From 1880 he worked on the Neues Siebmacher , a book of arms that was reissued from 1854. In the 1880s, Oskar's Kaisersteiner relatives wanted to sell Tentschach Castle. After all, he bought the castle in Tentschach after living at the Hollenburg and Mageregg Castle . He served in Infantry Regiment No. 22 of the Austro-Hungarian Army and retired as a captain with the title of major around 1860. After his death in 1900 he was buried in the family crypt of the Kaiserstein at the Carinthian Castle Krastowitz . Sir William Edward Goschen inherited the Tentschach estate.

He wrote his heraldic works under the pseudonym Pusikan . Göschen supported genealogical research in Carinthia not only with his publications, but also with monetary donations and the procurement of files and books. In the population he was considered a "nerd nature". It was said that "he occasionally held rehearsals for his funeral."
