history

In 1397 the knight Heinrich Mule von Binsfeld and the court handed over a castle that he had built to the Duke of Jülich and received it back from him as a fief.

Werner von Binsfeld rebuilt the manor house of the castle complex in 1533 . It was partly built on the foundations of an older castle and is surrounded by a pond. The castle is a rectangular brick building that was originally surrounded by water, separated from the outer bailey. The castle is three-story on the field side and two-story on the courtyard side. There is a round tower on the southeast corner. The octagonal stair tower stands at the northeast corner.

Inner courtyard of the castle

Loggias with six arcades each are in front of the manor house on the courtyard side on both floors . Around 1960 the loggias were extensively renovated by the Rhineland State Conservator .

In the lintel above the entrance door is the marriage coat of arms of the builder "Binsfeld-Nesselrode". Anno 1553 is written on the ribbon decoration .

In the past centuries the manor house was used as a residential building and the farm buildings (outer bailey) were used for agriculture. At the beginning of the Second World War, a significant part of the farm buildings was destroyed in a bomb attack. They were rebuilt in 1941/42. The main building was largely spared. In October 1983 the Rhenish "Castle Day" was held at the castle.

Until 1986 the castle buildings were used for agriculture by the Conzen family.

After it was sold in 1990, the castle was completely rebuilt and the manor house was given a modern multi-storey extension, which has taken away much of the historical charm of the entire complex. Since December 1, 1993, there has been a senior citizens' residence in Binsfeld Castle , which has grown to around 180 places.
