The castle stone house was first mentioned in 1257, it is the same congregation stone house in the Wels-Land district .

The first mentioned owner is an Alber von Polheim named in 1257. The castle remained in the Polheim family for the next 400 years. Since the Polheimers were Protestant and did not want to change their faith, they had to sell the castle in 1629 and so the castle came into the possession of the Catholic imperial count Weikart Katzianer von Katzenstein. In 1693 Count Johann Weikhart Katzianer sold the castle to his son-in-law Jakob Friedrich von Eyselsberg. The castle burned down in 1736. In 1766 the castle was rebuilt in its current form. A well-known member of this family was Anton von Eiselsberg , one of the founders of the Vienna School of Surgery.

2001 Ambassador i. R. Otto Eiselsberg Castle and the property belonging to his nephew Christoph Minutillo. A longstanding inheritance dispute was the result. The daughter of the heir, Anna Minutillo-Jereb, has lived in Steinhaus with her family since 2015.

The castle is a three-wing structure around an inner courtyard. The courtyard is enclosed by arcades, and in the castle there is a collection of weapons and family portraits. The four corner towers that previously existed were demolished after a fire and were no longer rebuilt. The facade has an economical decor with painted columns and stucco facing. The window bars on the first floor are noteworthy . The castle is located in an extensive park area surrounded by a wall. The castle also has a farm with a fish farm ( Koi ).
