history
The name is probably related to a Middle High German - East Middle Bavarian word Parze = stony [low] overgrown hill, which is particularly represented as a place name in Upper Austria. The name is first found around 1340, and could describe the castle site of the moated castle in the otherwise shallow Kehrbach valley , which is characterized by fish ponds. The associated Parzerberg is still located to the east above in around 1830, but is today as an address south on Annaberg. Parzerfeld used to be called the corridor northwest of the castle.
The core of the settlement is the Parz moated castle , which was first mentioned in a document in 1220. It belonged to the Lehrbühlern (Lehrböllern) until 1393 , then to the Jörger (von Tollet) and in 1400 it belonged to the Oberhaimer and then to the Pirching family . All around, some farms developed in a loose location. Today's cadastral parish probably represents the castle's Hofmark . A considerable tenth went from here to the cathedral chapter in Passau .
Kollomann Oberhaimer had the St. Anna Chapel built in 1468 , after which the Annaberg is called. It mostly belonged to the castle.
In 1514 the Parz rule came into the possession of the Pollheimers . They had already acquired Tegernbach Castle in 1398 , one of the oldest and best castles in Austria above the Enns. On the occasion of the purchase of Parz, they united the two gentlemen, tore down the already uncomfortable Tegernbach and built a new castle, called Neu-Tegernbach, today simply (Land-) Schloss Parz, right next to the moated castle . In 1644 Parz came into the possession of the Pálffy , then Harrach , Verdenberg , and in 1651 to the Weißenwolff , who owned the castle until the 20th century.
Plague epidemics are known for Grieskirchen from 1585 and 1714/15.
During the Napoleonic period 1810–1816, Grieskirchen was added to Bavaria and was a border town, Parz itself remained Austrian . On January 1, 1851, the political municipality Parz was created. It initially comprised the cadastral parishes of Parz, Pflege and Weinberg . On September 6, 1873, the political community Schlüßlberg (at that time the cadastral communities Schlüßlberg and Atschenbach included ) was dissolved and added to Parz.
In 1861 the Passau Railway , also known as the Empress Elisabeth Railway, was built and the Grieskirchen-Gallspach railway station was built here (opening September 1st). The station became particularly important in the early 1920s as a connection to the spa town of Gallspach . The legendary Oostende-Vienna-Express stopped here .
On September 12, 1938, when large communities were formed everywhere in Austria after the Anschluss , the cadastral community Trattenegg was added by the community Mangelburg , but the cadastral community Parz itself came to Grieskirchen. On July 23, 1939, this community was renamed Schlüßlberg without an associated main town. In 1938 the railway line was also provided with a second track.
In 1954/1955 the railway was electrified (operation from May 22, 1955). Express trains have not stopped since the 1990s, when Gallspach was no longer served due to the cancellation of German foreign spa stays.
Today the place in the southeast has grown together with the city of Grieskirchen, and the area in the Trattnachtal around the train station belongs to the village of Grieskirchen. The castles are owned by the Messerschmitt Foundation and are used for exhibitions, events and conferences, office space and restaurants. In 2010 the Upper Austrian Provincial Exhibition Renaissance and Reformation took place here.
