Wolfgang Freiherr von Polheim (born October 31, 1458 - † November 11, 1512 ) was an Austrian nobleman and from 1501 until his death captain and regent in the Lower Austrian lands .

Live and act

Wolfgang von Pohlheim came from an Upper Austrian noble family ( Polheim-Wartenburg line ). Emperor Friedrich III. appointed him councilor and treasurer of his son Maximilian I , with whom he went to the Netherlands in 1477. On January 22nd, 1501 he was raised to the baron status ( Reichsfreiherr zu Polheim and Wartenburg ) and on the same day he was elected a member of the Order of the Golden Fleece . In April of the same year he was appointed Colonel Captain and Regent of "Austria under the Enns".

During a diplomatic stay at the court of the French King Charles VIII , he met Franz von Paula personally and then founded the first Paulan monastery in Germany in Oberthalheim near Timelkam .

Wolfgang von Polheim married Johanna von Borsselen (1476–1509), daughter of Count Wolfhart VI , in 1494 . von Borsselen and Charlotte de Bourbon (* probably 1449, † March 18, 1478), daughter of Ludwig III. , Count of Montpensier . His son Cyriak von Polheim and his descendants joined the Reformation .

Wolfgang is buried together with his wife in the former monastery church of St. Anna in Oberthalheim .
