Louis I. de Bourbon , also called Louis the Good (* 1406 , † 1486 in Rome ) was Count of Montpensier and of Clermont-en-Auvergne from the House of Bourbon .

Life

Louis was the third and youngest son of Duke Jean I de Bourbon and his wife Marie de Berry , daughter of Duke Jean de Valois, duc de Berry from the House of Valois and his wife Jeanne d' Armagnac . Louis had good diplomatic skills and was strongly influenced by the late medieval knight ideals . He was largely on the royal side and was ambassador to Rome in 1484 through the ducal cousin.

In 1428 he married the heiress Jeanne d'Auvergne (1412–1436), daughter of Count Beraud III, in his first marriage . d'Auvergne. The marriage remained childless. In his second marriage in 1442 he married Gabrielle de la Tour-d'Auvergne († 1486), daughter of Count Bertrand V. The marriage had four children:
