The M-net telecommunications GmbH is a regional telecommunications provider in Bavaria and operates its own telecommunications network. The main shareholders of the company are Stadtwerke München .

history

M-net was founded on July 30, 1996 by the partners Stadtwerke München, Bayerische Landesbank and Stadtsparkasse München . At that time, M-net was only providing data services and fixed connections in the greater Munich area for business customers . After the introduction of telephone and Internet services, the opening up to private customers and a phase of continuous network expansion in the Munich area, M-net merged on January 1, 2004 with the local telecommunications network operator " NEFkom " based in Nuremberg . On January 1, 2006, the merger with “AugustaKom”, a provider active in the Allgäu and Swabia, resulted in a further expansion of the network. The entire company operates under the name M-net Telekommunikations GmbH. NEFkom was founded on July 17, 1996, AugustaKom in June 1997.

In 2017, M-net won a tender for fiber optic expansion in the Cham district . Incorrect calculations and problems with the construction of the project resulted in a financing gap of 100 million euros. M-net has neither confirmed nor denied the amount. As a result, the management at that time was dismissed and a capital increase was carried out by the municipal shareholders.
