The Ansbach station is the central transportation hub of the city of Ansbach . The two main routes Nuremberg – Crailsheim and Treuchtlingen – Würzburg intersect here .

history

Ansbach was connected to the railroad with a leased railway that connected Ansbach with Gunzenhausen , located on the Ludwig-Süd-Nord-Bahn over a length of 28 kilometers, and was opened on July 1, 1859. In 1869 the route was then passable from Würzburg to Treuchtlingen. In 1875 the line from Nuremberg was added, which was extended over the state border to Crailsheim in 1876 . In 1903 the Leutershausen-Wiedersbach-Bechhofen railway was opened, the trains of which, known locally as the Bechhöfer Boggala, were mostly tied through to Ansbach. However, it was shut down on November 28, 1966.

With the construction of the Ansbach station, a depot for the maintenance of locomotives and cars was also built. It was closed in the 1970s and the engine shed was sold to a scrap company. It deteriorated noticeably and burned to the ground on May 31, 2012.

In 1987 the transport association for the greater Nuremberg area (VGN) came into force. The Nuremberg - Ansbach line was integrated as the R7 from the start . After the VGN expansion on July 1, 1997, the R7 was extended to Dombühl and the route from Uffenheim to Treuchtlingen was added to the network as the R8 .

During the 2010 summer vacation, DB Netz closed the northeastern head platform at Ansbach station between tracks 1 and 1a completely and converted it. He got a new platform 140 meters long and 76 cm high for the S-Bahn. With the timetable change in December 2010, the Nuremberg S-Bahn network was significantly expanded.

On December 10, 2017, the VGN extended the S4 by 23 kilometers to Dombühl . However, only every fourth S-Bahn continues every two hours from Ansbach during the day.

Rail transport

Ansbach station has seven platform tracks, two of which are butt tracks. As a rule, the S-Bahn to Nuremberg use the 76 cm high head platform between tracks 1 west and 25 (until 2010 track 1a). The two 400 meter long island platforms between tracks 2 and 3 and tracks 4 and 5 have not yet been modernized and are only 30 cm high. There are hourly connections on the same platform opposite: East at minute 10 between Regional Express or Intercity to Stuttgart on platform 2 and RB to Würzburg on platform 3. And to the west at minute 50 between RB to Treuchtlingen on platform 4 and regional Express and Intercity trains to Nuremberg on track 5. Occasional trains from the west turn on track 1 east or 27 (until 2010 track 1b).

Bus transport

At the end of the 1990s, the Ansbach station forecourt was redesigned and modernized and got a central bus station . All city and regional bus routes that connect the surrounding area with Ansbach stop there.

future

In order to relieve the Fürth main station node , the idea was given in 2009 to increase long-distance traffic between Würzburg and Munich via the Treuchtlingen - Würzburg railway line. According to the will of those responsible at Deutsche Bahn , the Ansbach train station should also benefit from the stop of the ICE . If these plans are implemented, extensive construction work will be necessary on the infrastructure. The city and district of Ansbach want to contribute 80,000  euros to the preliminary planning.

However, the long-distance transport concept 2030 published by DB Fernverkehr in 2015 no longer contains ICE connections for the Würzburg - Ansbach - Treuchtlingen route. There is only one daily tourist IC train pair from / to Hamburg and Upper Bavaria as well as the IC line Nuremberg - Stuttgart - Karlsruhe.
