Nürnberg Ost train station (also Nürnberg Ostbahnhof ) is located on the Nürnberg – Cheb railway line and the circular railway branch towards Dutzendteich and is located in the east of the city in the St. Jobst district . It is divided into station category 5 and today has five through tracks, four of which are connected to two central platforms, each 332 m long and 38 cm high. The station is only served by the regional train lines R3 (Nuremberg - Neuhaus) and R31 (Nuremberg - Simmelsdorf-Hüttenbach), freight traffic was discontinued at the end of the 1990s. There is also a connection to tram line 8.
history
The station was opened on July 15, 1877 under the name St. Jobst (renamed in 1885 in Nuremberg East ) by the Royal Bavarian State Railways together with the Nuremberg - Schnabelwaid section of today's Nuremberg - Cheb line. From the beginning there was a goods handling facility , which was further expanded with the opening of the Ringbahn branches to Nuremberg North (July 1, 1899) and Nuremberg-Dutzendteich (May 1, 1900). The station building of the freight yard from 1877, a three-storey sandstone block with a hipped roof, is a listed building to the south of the tracks. During the air raid on January 2, 1945, the northern station building was completely destroyed and later replaced by a purpose-built concrete structure. In 1985, part of the events for the 150th anniversary of the German Railroad took place in the station . At the end of the 1990s, freight traffic in Nuremberg East was given up and the freight facilities dismantled. Of the once nine goods connections, only the unused connection to the Nuremberg office of the federal monopoly administration for spirits is still available today.
