The Nürnberg-Zollhaus stop is a disused train station in Nuremberg , located on the southern ring line and was in operation from 1904 to 1992.

history

opening

The station was opened on July 10, 1904 by the Royal Bavarian State Railways with the start of passenger traffic from Nuremberg main station to Nuremberg marshalling yard. It was originally located on the overpass of Klenzestraße ( coordinates ), which is now filled in, in the middle of the marshalling yard settlement .

laying

When work on the Nazi party rally grounds began in 1933, the course of the Ringbahn, whose old route ran through the planned German stadium , had to be relocated 1.6 kilometers to the south. In this context, the stop was moved around 170 m as the crow flies to the southeast to its current location and opened to traffic in 1937. In addition to the Dutzendteich and Märzfeld stations (now Langwasser), it was used to transport the participants to the Nazi party rallies.

Shutdown

Public passenger traffic was discontinued on September 27, 1987 and the stopping point was closed on May 31, 1992 after service passenger traffic was closed. The platform has meanwhile been removed, the reception building has served as a restaurant and is now empty.

building

description

The reception building is located on the central platform and is accessible from the bridge on Klenzestrasse. With its cubic, functional basic shape, it corresponds to the guidelines of the New Building, which was actually frowned upon in the Third Reich . Inside, the original furnishings have largely been preserved. Between the sober exterior and the wall fresco in the home style makes for an interesting tension. The building and the bridge connected to it were therefore listed as a historical monument in 2011 .
