Weichslmühle tower castle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The defunct tower castle Weichslmühle was located in the district Weichslmühle (Unterpentling) of the municipality of Pentling in the Upper Palatinate district of Regensburg in Bavaria .

history

Weichslmühle was originally called Unterpentling. This is a place at the exit of Pentling to a valley leading towards the Danube .

In Unterpentling, in the traditions of the St. Emmeram monastery in 1126 and 1129, a Hartwic de ounterpelingen appears among the ministerials of the Reichsstift. 1135 and 1141 a Sahso de Unterbentelingen and de Vnterpentelingen are called. In 1147/48 an Askerich nomine de uico Unterbentelingen nuncupato gives his own zu Hul (= Hüll near Wolnzach ) to the St. Emmeram monastery on the occasion of his entry into the monastery. Between 1149 and 1160 a tradition calls the Siboto de Unterbentelingen or the Siboto ministerialis S. Emmerammi . Between 1160 and 1190 another Gottfried von Unterpentling is mentioned in the Emmeram traditions .

These Unterpentlingers are therefore ministerials of the Reichsstift St. Emmeram and have allodial and feudal property in this area. After the 12th century, the Unterpentlinger family is no longer mentioned, which is probably also related to the decline of their seat in Unterpentling.

Building history

There is no documented information about this fortification. But even in the middle of the 19th century there was talk of a ruined tower in the Weichslmühle. The square tower made of solid rock was built into the mill building and had stone door and window cornices. Below was a collapsed corridor, perhaps the remains of a vault under the castle building. This tower was temporarily interpreted as part of the fortifications of the Roman Limes , but this is unlikely due to its location. In the middle of the 19th century, the tower was seen as part of the line of fire signals on the Danube , which stretched from Kelheim to Donaustauf . Nothing seems to have survived from him.
