Sanding Castle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sanding Castle, which was sold in the 13th century, was located in the Untersanding district of today's Thalmassing municipality in the Upper Palatinate district of Regensburg in Bavaria .

history

A contract dated March 1, 1271 between the Regensburg bishop Leo Thundorfer and a Hermannus miles dictus de Mannstorf reports on the fortifications at Sanding . This Hermannus is obliged to return his Hochstift fief in Saemting as well as a munitio (= fortification) that he had built there for money. At the same time he had to undertake to destroy the fortifications and not to rebuild them and the possessions should belong to the bishop in the future.

The castle can therefore be dated to the first half of the 13th century; since it is not mentioned again later, it should actually have been razed. A division of Sanding into Nydensampting and Obernsampting is attested from 1324; Since Untersanding is considered to be the older part of the village, the facility is to be assumed there. However, no remains of it have been found.
