The Kürn Castle is a listed building at Schlossplatz 1 / in Römerstraße 24 in the district of Kürn in the Bernhardswald municipality in the Bavarian district of Regensburg .

history

The builders of the castle were the lords of Kürn, who had their ancestral seat there. The nobles of Kürn were first mentioned in 1197, and in 1299 a castrum dictum churn . After the castle and lordship of Kürn were sold to the Paulsdorfer in 1394, the lords of Kürn relocated their lordship to Kürnberg Castle near Stamsried , where Hans Kürner is mentioned in 1422 as the last Kürnberger. Later owners of Kürn Castle were the Dukes of Bavaria in 1623 and the von Stingelheim family from 1642. In 1825 the castle burned down, so that from 1826 the castle was rebuilt in classicist forms. It has been owned by the Counts of since 1830Walderdorff .

The castle is a two-storey, simple, classicist four-wing complex with hipped roofs , nine window axes, a gabled central risalit and plastered structures . The core of the complex dates back to 1698. The large natural park on a south-western hillside includes natural granite blocks and a rich beech population. Of the old medieval castle complex, only the moat is visible today.
