The Ramspau castle ruins are the ruins of a spur castle on the Schlossberg at 400  m above sea level. NN 400 meters west-southwest of the church in the Ramspau district of the Regenstauf market in the Upper Palatinate district of Regensburg in Bavaria .

history

Possibly the castle was built by a local noble family before the 13th century or, according to another theory, by the Wittelsbachers in the 13th century . In 1312 a knight testified for the first time "Weichser de Ranspaur" in a document . Presumably the already existing castle went to the knights of Weichs near Regensburg .

In the following years Heinrich, Hans and Marquart Weichser von Ramspau are named, who were also ducal keepers in Kelheim and Falkenstein . The castle itself was mentioned in 1428 when the chronicler Andreas von Regensburg wrote of a Kelheim keeper Ludwig Chamerauer as the owner.

The castle is said to have been occupied by a ruse during a feud with an Abensberger .

After Wigeleus von Weichs had sold his Ramspau possessions to Kuttenauer von Albertshofen in 1480, the owners changed frequently.

After the castle was described as preserved in the 16th century, it must soon have been abandoned. The stones were probably used for the Baroque Ramspau Castle , which was built by the Reisach family from 1706 onwards.

description

The small, roughly rectangular hilltop castle was separated from the towering mountain plateau by a ditch and was difficult to secure. On the slope side there are still open cellar vaults made of quarry stone , which indicate earlier buildings. The castle probably had a kennel and a small outer bailey with access to the castle complex.

The ruins still show the almost completely preserved pentagonal keep with 1.50 meter thick quarry stone walls and an outwardly directed light slit. The Burgplatz is now a ground monument .
