history

Around 1694, Ramspau Castle and the associated place came into the possession of Count Johann Siegmund Anton Franz von Reisach (1670–1743), who was the main caretaker of the Regenstauf market in Bavaria. After 1700 he had large parts of the castle demolished and used as building material for a new castle in the village in the valley. The castle was built as a two-storey baroque complex with a hipped roof and four round corner towers with octagonal tops, which in turn are surmounted by onion domes. Construction was completed around 1726.

Other owners were Anton von Pestalozzi, Johann Heinrich von Schneid and Josef Carl von Drechsel . Through the marriage of Maria Klara von Drechsel, the property came to Ignatz Marquart Freiherr von Pfetten in 1803 . Landowner Maximilian Marquart Carl-Ludwig Freiherr von Pfetten (1861–1929) was a member of the Reichstag . After his death, his son Josef Freiherr von Pfetten inherited the property, who in turn passed it on to his daughter Godula in 1971; she married Count Franz Ledebur-Wicheln .

use

Since 1995 the castle has been owned by Wigbert Graf von Ledebur-Wicheln and his wife Isabella, née Countess von Ingelheim, called Echterin von und zu Mespelbrunn . The castle with a view of the Regen river, which is still characteristic of the townscape of Ramspau, is in very good condition. Parts of the outbuildings were converted into holiday apartments. There are several stone figures in the small park belonging to the castle.
