history

The former Niederungsburg and medieval pond complex was built in the 12th century. At that time it was owned by the Truchsess zu Heilsberg and the gentlemen von Eggmühl. Around 1333 it was owned by Ulrich der Leublfinger. A kennel was built around 1432 . From 1475 the nursing court of the dukes of Bavaria was located here . In the 16th and 17th centuries the building was modified. The storage facility with a half-hipped roof was built in the 17th century . In 1812 the castle came into the possession of the Count of Montgelas , and in 1834 to the Princes of Thurn and Taxis . In the 20th century, it was converted into a retirement home and the north wing was extended. Today the castle is used as a BRK senior citizens' home.

building

The castle is a structured, irregular four-wing complex around a rectangular courtyard from the 15th century that is open to the north-east. The west wing, a former gate building, is a two-storey, ground-floor vaulted hipped roof building with dwarf houses and a tail gable . The south wing is a two-storey hipped roof building with an irregular floor plan. The north wing is a three-storey hipped roof building with remains of the Zwingermauer with four round towers made of quarry stone from 1432.
