Andreas Boos
Andreas Boos (born September 2, 1959 in Tübingen ) is a German archaeologist and historian.
Life
Andreas Boos was born as the son of the doctor Otto Boos and his wife Ilse, geb. Meinel, born. After attending primary school, he attended the mathematical and natural science Goethe-Gymnasium in Regensburg , where he graduated from high school in 1978. He then studied prehistory and history at the University of Regensburg . 1979–1981 he was involved in various excavations in Regensburg and the southern Upper Palatinate, from 1983 to 1985 he was a research assistant at the Chair for Prehistory and Protohistory at the University of Regensburg, and in 1986 he submitted his master's thesis on "Investigations into Oppidaforschung". In 1987 he was employed at the Regensburg City Archives as part of a project to research the medieval infrastructure of Eastern Bavaria and at the Office for Archives and Monument Preservation of the City of Regensburg. 1987–1989 he received a doctoral scholarship from the Graduate Fund of the Free State of Bavaria. In 1988 he led an emergency excavation in Kelheim . 1989–1992 he studied art history, classical archeology and folklore at the University of Regensburg. In 1992, as a research assistant for the community of Flossenbürg , he took over the preservation of the Flossenbürg Castle . In 1993 he was awarded the dissertation on "The early and high medieval castles in the south of Weiden" to Dr. phil. PhD in the subjects of Prehistory, Ancient History and Medieval History; the work is considered the standard work in this subject area.
Since 1994 he has been head of the archeology department and deputy head of the Historical Museum of Regensburg . In addition to his activities in the context of the museum, he is a member of the committee of the Historical Association for Upper Palatinate and Regensburg .
research
He directed u. a. the excavations of Ehrenfels Castle and in Großprüfening near the "Roman Park"; A branch of the Historical Museum was also set up here.
Andreas Boos is involved in a research project approved in 2013 by the VW Foundation for several museums ( State Collection for Anthropology and Paleoanatomy , Archaeological State Collection Munich - Museum for Prehistory and Protohistory, Genetics Institute of University College London , Archaeological State Collection Munich, Institute for Anthropology of the University of Mainz as well as the archeology department of the Historisches Museum Regensburg); "Deformed skulls - traces of female mobility and multicultural communities at the beginning of Europe" are examined here. An excavation and exhibition project on the early Slavic settlement of the Regensburg area, which Andreas Boos designed together with the West Bohemian Museum in Pilsen , Hans Losert from the University of Bamberg and the ArchaeoCentrum Bayern-Böhmen , met with great interest . He is also involved in the excavation work in the Jewish quarter of Regensburg.
