Oberviehhausen Castle with parish church

The former Oberviehhausen Castle and today's rectory is a listed building at Kirchplatz 6 in the Viehhausen district of the Sinzing community in the Regensburg district ( Bavaria ).

history

The year Oberviehhausen Castle was built is not known. A Niederungsburg was first mentioned in a document in 1435, and it changed hands several times over the centuries. Hofmark Oberviehhausen first belonged to the Chamerauers , then Hadamar von Laaber , from 1435 to the Reisachers, then Hans Schelhamer and around 1570 Leonhard Sauerzapf; from 1600 the property came to the barons of Rosenbusch by marriage . During the Thirty Years' War the Hofmark was destroyed by the Swedes and it was not until 1681 that Franz Wilhelm Rosenbusch had the property rebuilt as a small baroque-style castle . There used to be a baroque garden. Today's monastery hall was the palace chapel. The last of the Rosenbuschs was Franz Peter von Rosenbusch, who died in 1768. He left his property to his wife Maria Johanna, born in Lerchenfeld.

After the Rosenbusch line died out, Hofmark Viehhausen first fell to Franz von Lerchenfeld- Brennberg in 1777, but then changed hands frequently. In 1848 the property was auctioned and acquired by Friedrich Pustet, owner of a paper mill in Alling. In 1852 the Poor Clares converted the castle into a convent and girls' school, which was later used by the Servites .

Building description

As can be seen from the engraving by Michael Wening from 1721, there was an extensive garden to the south of the palace. Next to the castle stood the gardener's house, to which several courtyard buildings and stables were attached.

The castle is now a three-storey hipped roof with pilasters , a tower with a tent roof and stone portals from around 1700. The castle wall with portal is baroque. Today the parish church of Viehhausen stands next to the castle.

The Viehhausen Poor Clare Monastery was housed in the castle from 1852 to 1974 and a Servite monastery from 1978 to 1989. Today the building serves as the vicarage of Viehhausen.
