The Postal Karlstein is an Outbound hilltop castle in the village of Karlstein the market Regenstauf in Upper Palatinate district of Regensburg by Bavaria .

history

At the site of today 's Karlstein Castle was a castle from the 14th century.

The first owners of Karlstein come from the Hofer family , who are also mentioned in other castles in this area ( Burgstall Drackenstein , Burg Forstenberg ). In 1316 a gentleman from the court of the datz whom Chadoltstain sat was named in a document from the convent , his brother Friedrich von der Hof acts as co-sealer . A Mr. Friedrich der Hovaer von Chadoltstain appears in 1332 as a surety in another sales contract. A Herman der Hoferer to the Karelstein appears in a document in 1351, he also appears in 1363 as Hirmann the Hofär von Chadoltstain as an issuer of a certificate for the Reichenbach monastery . In 1375 a Conrad der Murer von Karlstein is mentioned who bought a property nearby.

Before 1381 Karlstein was pledged from the property of King Wenceslas to the Landgraves of Leuchtenberg . Landgrave Johann the Elder left Karlstein with other goods to his sons on the condition that if King Wenzel redeemed Karlstein, the deposit must be used to buy back other castles. In 1457 a Hans Teuerlinger is named as a gentleman on Karlstein. Karlstein is expanded to become the seat of the other associated estates, which resulted in the decline of Forstenberg , Stadel and Drackenstein , but also the destruction of the medieval castle complex in Karlstein.

Burgstall Karlstein today

On Philipp Apian's land plate from 1568, Karlstein Castle ( Carlstain ) is still shown with a tower, wall and a residential building. One can assume that parts of the medieval castle still exist under the castle complex of today's castle , but nothing of this complex has survived.
