Karlstein is a village in the market town of Regenstauf in the Regensburg district in Bavaria . Karlstein was the seat of the municipality of the same name until 1978 .

history

The name of the place can be derived from the castle of Chadolth (Chadoltstein). The first lords of Karlstein were the Hofer von Lobenstein . Before 1381 the property was pledged to the Leuchtenberg , who rebuilt the castle in 1393. The medieval Karlstein Castle originally stood here, which was completely overbuilt by today's palace from the 16th and 19th centuries.

In 1632 Karlstein was sacked by the Swedish general Craz during the Thirty Years War . In the course of time the owner of Karlstein Castle changed several times . The noble Hofmark was last owned by the Barons von Schneid.

The municipality of Karlstein originated with the Bavarian municipal edict of 1818. The municipality includes the places Karlstein, Asing, Birkenzant, Brunnhaus (Fuchsberg), Drackenstein (Trackenstein), Gfangen, Oberhof, Ruith, Schneitweg and Stadel. On January 1, 1978, Karlstein was incorporated into Regenstauf .
