Kürn Castle

history

The builders of the local castle were the lords of Kürn. They are mentioned for the first time in 1197, followed by a castrum dictum churn in 1299 . After the castle and lordship of Kürn were sold to the Paulsdorfer in 1394, the lords of Kürn relocated their lordship to Kürnberg Castle near Stamsried , where Hans Kürner is mentioned in 1422 as the last Kürnberger. Later owners of Kürn Castle were the Dukes of Bavaria in 1623 and the von Stingelheim family from 1642.

The Catholic Loreto Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary was built in 1700/01 as a Loretto Chapel. In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria, the municipal edict of 1818 created today's municipalities, including Bernhardswald and Kürn. In Kürn there was also a second order patrimonial court . In 1825 the Kürner Castle burned down and was rebuilt in classicist forms. It has been in the possession of the Counts of Walderdorff since 1830 . The last remnants of the aristocracy were abolished in the revolution of 1848 .

The municipality of Kürn included the towns of Appertszwing, Eichelmühle, Elendbaumgarten, Elendbleschen, Gambach, Grubhof, Högelstein, Lammelhöfl, Lieberg, Löchl, Maad, Oberharm, Oberlipplgütl (Saugraben), Ödenhof, Pillmannsberg, Plessenberg, Rothenhofstatt (Joklhof), Schlag Seibersdorf, Steinrinnen, Thalhof, Unterharm, Unterlipplgütl (Schnepfenhöfl) and Weg. On January 1, 1972, the municipality of Kürn was incorporated into the municipality of Bernhardswald.
