history

Lichtenberg emerged in the 11th century as a clearing site that was fortified. It was first mentioned in writing in 1160 and 1177 in a document attested by the brothers Ortliebus, Pertholdus and Hartuuicus de Liehtenperge. From the 12th to the middle of the 14th century, the Lichtenbergers sat at Lichtenberg Castle. Then Hector von Lichtenberg built a new castle in Lichtenwald , moved into it and sold the Lichtenberg castle to the Igel family from Regensburg. After a few changes of ownership in the 15th and 16th centuries and a period of decay, Lichtenberg Castle was converted into a church, John the Baptist, by converting the former house in the 17th century.

In 1498, Urban Zenger received the Lichtenberg farm next to Lichtenberg Castle. In 1730 the Lichtenberg farm was rebuilt after it had been deserted for some time.

On March 23, 1913 (Easter), Lichtenberg belonged to the parish Altenthann with 2 houses and 17 residents. On December 31, 1990 Lichtenberg had eleven Catholic residents and belonged to the parish Altenthann.
