René Weiler (born September 13, 1973 in Winterthur ) is a Swiss football coach and former player . He is currently under contract with al Ahly SC in Egypt .
Career
As a player
As a player, Weiler was employed by FC Winterthur , FC Aarau , Servette FC Genève and FC Zurich . While in Zurich he became national coach Rolf Fringer into the senior team called it for the February 7, 1997 in Hong Kong his only official match at a 1: 2 defeat to Russia denied. Four days earlier, he scored 4-1 in a friendly against China. In the same year he suffered a fractured ankle with a torn ligament, which put him out of action for a long time. He then played again in Winterthur before he had to end his career in 2001 after another foot operation.
As a trainer
In 2001 he embarked on a coaching career and was initially an assistant coach at FC Winterthur, where he later took over the U-18 juniors. As head coach, he trained the second representative of FC St. Gallen , the U-16 juniors of Grasshopper Zurich , FC Schaffhausen and, from 2011, FC Aarau. With FC Aarau in 2013 he was promoted to the top Swiss league, the Super League . In the following season, the promoted team managed to stay in the league with confidence, before Weiler left FC Aarau of his own free will in the summer of 2014, although he still had a contract that ran until 2015.
In November 2014, the German second division club 1. FC Nürnberg signed him as the successor to the released Valérien Ismaël . The 2014/15 season ended in midfield, the following season in third place. In the relegation for promotion to the Bundesliga, the team was almost defeated by Eintracht Frankfurt .
From the 2016/17 season, Weiler coached RSC Anderlecht . On May 18, 2017, his team secured the championship title ahead of time and with a large lead in points. On September 18, 2017, the RSC Anderlecht separated from him after nine points from the first seven league games.
On June 21, 2018, FC Luzern signed Weiler as coach and successor to Gerardo Seoane . He signed a three-year contract. On February 18, 2019, the club and coach agreed to end the cooperation.
In August 2019, Weiler switched to al Ahly SC and terminated his ongoing contract with Lucerne.
