Marietheres List

Marietheres List (born January 5, 1946 in Munich ; † February 20, 2018 in Pentling near Regensburg ) was a German theater scholar and artistic director .

Life

Training and stations

Marietheres List, the daughter of Herbert List († 1988), who was head of the artistic office at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich from 1954 to 1977 , came from an artistic family. Her father was a director , her mother an opera singer . List made her first theater experiences as a child. List received ballet lessons from the age of five, danced in children's ballet, where she a. a. next to Heinz Bosl had her first appearance, and received singing lessons. However, her vocal range was insufficient for a career as a singer, so List decided to pursue theater and music management as a career choice.

List then studied theater studies and music history . She initially worked with her father. After directing internships and working in television, she was head of the artistic offices in Graz from 1974/75 to 1982 , of the Nuremberg Municipal Theaters from 1977 and finally from 1979 in the same position at the Württemberg State Opera in Stuttgart . In 1983 she took over the management of the conductor Lamberto Gardelli for a short time before moving to the Gelsenkirchener Musiktheater im Revier as personal assistant to the general manager and as chief dispatcher . In 1985 she became artistic operations director and deputy director of the Essen Theater and the Essen Philharmonic . From 1986 she was Deputy Opera Director at the Nice Opera House .

Intendant in Regensburg

In April 1987 she was elected director of the Regensburg Municipal Theater by the Regensburg City Council. List prevailed against more than 50 male competitors in the selection process. In this capacity she was the first woman to head a state or municipal theater.

List was the artistic director of the Regensburg Municipal Theaters from 1988 to 2002. List took up her post in October 1988 at the start of the 1988/89 theater season. The first premiere she was responsible for was the Verdi opera Un ballo in maschera , for which she engaged Wolfgang Brendel (Bavarian State Opera Munich) as a guest. At the beginning of her tenure in the theater organization, she created new positions for drama and music dramaturges and installed a press officer for advertising and marketing the theater. In acting and music theater, List worked almost exclusively with guest directors. List paid particular attention to music theater. During her tenure were u. a. Chamber operas by Franz Hummel and Enjott Schneider premiered. List also regularly put the musical on the program. Her greatest success at the Regensburg Municipal Theaters is the establishment of an independent ballet . As a choreographer and director, she engaged Dieter Gößler , the former solo dancer of the Städtische Bühnen Nürnberg, whom she knew from her time in Nuremberg. The successful renovation of the house on Bismarckplatz (1997–2001) and the expansion of the historic cycling hall “Velodrom” into the second permanent large venue of the Regensburg City Theaters took place under List's directorship. List is also considered the discoverer and mentor of the Austrian director and later State Theater am Gärtnerplatz director Josef Ernst Köpplinger .

During List's tenure, around 300 productions were realized at the Regensburg City Theaters. Around 1.3 million visitors came to the more than 6000 performances in the various venues. Her tenure ended at the end of the 2001/02 season. Her successor was Ernö Weil .

Private

After the end of her term of office, List, who had lived in the hotel in her first Regensburg years , settled permanently in Regensburg. Her last public appearances were in 2016. a. at the 34th Bavarian Theater Days in Regensburg.

List was unmarried. She lived in a hospice for the last few months before her death . In February 2018 List died “after a serious illness” at the age of 72.
