The Malawian Embassy in Berlin is Malawi's diplomatic mission in Germany . The embassy building is located at Westfälische Strasse 86 in the Berlin district of Wilmersdorf in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district . Michael Barth Kamphambe Nkhoma has been the ambassador since November 2015 .

history

In 1964, the year of independence, the Republic of Malawi established diplomatic relations with the Federal Republic of Germany . In 1986 an embassy was opened in Bonn at Mainzer Straße 124 . There was no diplomatic contact with the GDR . In November 2001 a new branch was opened in the Regus Business Center at Kurfürstendamm 208 in Charlottenburg . In 2002, the new embassy building on Westfälische Strasse was ready to move into.

Building history

NOVA Bauträger- und Verwaltungs-GmbH was commissioned to plan and build the embassy . Construction took place in 2001 and 2002.

architecture

The embassy building rises above a pentagonal floor plan. The building consists of a basement, two full upper floors and a mansard roof . The double windows on all facade fronts are upright rectangular. White lines and plastered areas frame the windows. The roof is covered with metal plates and opened towards Blüthgenstrasse through dormer windows . The consulate is on the mezzanine floor and the embassy on the first floor of the building. There is an event room in the converted attic.
