The Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in Berlin is the diplomatic representation of Tajikistan in the Federal Republic of Germany . It has existed since the 1990s. After a brief period in Bonn , the diplomats moved to Berlin at the beginning of the 21st century.

history

During the period when the Tajik region became part of the USSR , between 1924 and 1991, the diplomats of the Soviet Foreign Ministry managed all international relations, including for the individual republics such as the Tajik SSR . After the collapse of the Soviet Union with the formation of new autonomous successor states and after German reunification , the country was initially in chaos and in numerous civil wars. After the Federal Republic had officially recognized the Republic of Tajikistan diplomatically, Germany set up its embassy in the capital Dushanbe . In return, Tajikistan opened its first embassy in Europe in Bonn- Bad Godesberg . But the country soon followed the mainstream and initially rented an existing building in Berlin on Otto-Suhr-Allee . Soon the diplomats were looking for a house of their own.

The embassy building

Today's embassy building in the Berlin district of Moabit in the Mitte district at Perleberger Strasse 43 at the corner of Lübecker Strasse 33 was a church belonging to the New Apostolic congregation in Berlin . The Tajik government acquired this structure in March 2008. The house, which had been vacant for a long time, had previously been approved by the MO21 cultural initiative for use as the Moabit cultural center .

Now the Tajiks had extensive renovations carried out inside, which had been approved by the building authorities in connection with the purchase. The building has a polygonal floor plan and is a relatively unadorned clinker brick building in the style of Cubism . On the narrow gable side towards the street crossing, instead of the earlier New Apostolic church cross, there is a crown with seven stars above it, part of the Tajik coat of arms , made of individual gold-plated relief parts. The crown refers to the history of the country, the seven stars symbolize the Holy Spirit and the six guardian spirits <the cattle, fire, metal, earth, water and plants>.

entrance

The entrance doors of the former church are self-made with folk art motifs. The triangular area was fenced in again, whereby the existing wall was retained, which has cut-outs in some places in the leg area. It has been raised with a metal fence, the view of the former church building has been partially preserved. On December 14, 2011, the then Tajik President Emomalij Rahmon (as part of a three-day state visit to Germany) and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel inaugurated the embassy building.

Immediate environment

Large mural on the border to the embassy area

A long firewall of the apartment block between Lübecker and Perleberger Strasse, which adjoins the embassy property, is adorned - apparently on behalf of the embassy - with four upright, softly colored murals depicting typical landscapes “from home” and in the style of Chinese watercolors are held.

Garden pavilion

In addition, a large carved wooden pavilion was set up in the garden behind the fence on Perleberger Strasse and close to the entrance.
