Armin Völckers (born on August 31, 1963 in Berlin ) is a German painter and filmmaker. He lives in Berlin.

Live and act

Armin Völckers spent the time between 1964 and 1970 in Rio de Janeiro and lived in Hamburg from 1970. After graduating from high school in 1981 and doing community service, he moved to Berlin (West) and studied painting from 1983 at the Berlin University of the Arts with Dietmar Lemcke , Jens Jensen and Henning Kürschner . Since 1988 Völckers has shown his works in numerous exhibitions in private galleries, at the annual exhibition of the Association of Berlin Artists in 1995 and internationally in private collections (including the World Bank Washington, DC).

During a break from visual creativity in the early 2000s, he worked as a filmmaker and screenwriter. His film Leroy (2007), sponsored by ZDF , received the German Film Prize 2008 in two categories (Golden Lola for Best Children's Film, Best Music) and the audience award at the Tokyo International Film Festival in Japan. Since then, Völckers has mainly devoted himself to painting.

Works

painting

Völckers' consistently figurative painting is characterized by narrative fantasy - often with a satirical touch. Although he has a distinctive and typical painterly handwriting, he often incorporates elements of classic painting styles. This correlates with pictorial objects that are borrowed equally from everyday life, dreams and pop culture. In his pictures, reality and dream world are seamlessly connected.

Recurring inspirations in Völckers' pictures include a. Memories of idols from one's own youth (e.g. the picture series “Reptile House”, inspired by an EP by the gothic rock band “ The Sisters of Mercy ”), reading the novels by Thomas Pynchon or films by David Lynch . The picturesque of his often deserted landscapes is counteracted by ruins that seem like the legacy of a vanished humanity. Recently, he has also increasingly been painting still lifes with flowers.
